Actor Tabassum Govil, who starred in a number of iconic early Bollywood films and hosted the Doordarshan program “Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan” (1972–93), passed away on Friday night in Mumbai.

Her passing was announced to the media today by her son Hoshang Govil. Talking with the media, he said,
She passed away last night around 8.40 pm due to cardiac arrest at a hospital.
He added,
She was absolutely healthy. We shot for our show 10 days ago. And were about to shoot again next week. It happened all of a sudden.

Who Is Tabassum Govil?
Tabassum Govil was a well-known veteran Bollywood actress and a host at Doordarshan. She has been in the news because she passed away recently.
Her another name was Kiran Bala Sachdev. Many people also fondly called her “Papa.” She was born on July 9, 1944, in the Bombay Presidency, British India (now Mumbai, Maharashtra).
His father’s name is Ayodhyanath Sachdev, a journalist, and a freedom fighter, and her mother’s name is Asghari Begum who was also a journalist and a freedom fighter. She has two elder brothers and one sister.
Tabassum Govil did her schooling at Anjuman-I-Islam Girls High School, Mumbai. She later attended Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh where she got her bachelor of arts degree.
She was married to Vijay Govil who was an actor and a director. She has a son named Hosang Govil who is also an actor and film director. She also has a grandchild named Khushi Govil.
Her height was 158 cm or 5 ft 2 inches. She died at the age of 78.
During an interview, while talking about her religion, she said, “I am neither Hindu nor Muslim. I am a human being.”
Her father named her Tabassum, keeping her mother’s religious sentiments in mind, while her mother kept her name Kiran Bala, keeping her father’s religion in mind.
Her Career
With “Nargis” (1947), Tabassum Govil made her acting debut as a young child. She then had appearances in the films Mera Suhaag (1947), Manjhdhar (1947), Bari Behen (1949), Deedar (1951), Baiju Bawra (1952), and “Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon.” After a hiatus, she returned to acting in movies, playing character parts for adults.
“Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan,” the first chat show on Indian television, was hosted by her and aired for 21 years, from 1972 to 1993. She also published several joke books and served as editor of “Grihalaxmi,” a Hindi women’s magazine, for 15 years.
Tabassum Govil wrote, produced, and directed her debut movie, “Tum Par Hum Qurban,” in 1985. She made a comeback to television in 2006 by appearing as an actor in “Pyaar Ke Do Naam: Ek Raadha, Ek Shyaam.” On Zee TV’s Ladies Special (2009), a reality stand-up comedy program, she got to the position of judge.
She continued to work as a television interviewer and was hosting the “Abhi Toh Main Jawaan Hoon” TV show on TV Asia USA and Canada. She has started a YouTube channel called “Tabassum Talkies.”
