The Professional Darts Corporation held its second iteration of the TAB New Zealand Darts Masters in 2022, which served as the sixth entry in that year’s World Series of Darts. On August 26–27, 2022, in the Globox Arena in Hamilton, New Zealand, a tournament with 16 competitors—eight PDC players and eight regional qualifiers—was conducted.
2022 TAB New Zealand Darts Masters Final Day Results, Fixtures And Score
Following his victory in Wollongong the previous weekend, Clayton was attempting to capture a second World Series title and got off to a great start in the final, with an 11-dart hold in leg four igniting a run of three straight legs. However, Price pinned double five to stop the bleeding in a critical seventh leg. He was then dependent on the same target minutes later to finish a 12-dart break and restore parity at four apiece. The 2021 World Champion kept pushing forward with legs of 15, 14 and 15 darts to increase his lead to 7-4, and after Clayton flubbed his lines on the outer ring, Price executed a precise 92 kill on double 12 to complete the comeback.
Avenging his loss to Wade in the NSW semifinals last weekend, Price opened Saturday’s play with a commanding 6-2 victory against the left-hander. After that, the Welshman put up an amazing performance to defeat top seed Dimitri Van den Bergh in the semi-final, winning six of the final seven legs to finish off a 7-4 victory over the Belgian.
Despite failing to win the World Series for the second time in a row, Clayton defeated the reigning champion Van Gerwen in the quarterfinal. The 47-year-old then advanced to Saturday’s championship round with a valiant 7-5 victory over Michael Smith. The World Series competition will continue the following month when Clayton attempts to retain his Jack’s World Series of Darts Finals championship in Amsterdam from September 16–18.
