The T20 World Cup 2022 concluded today at the famous Melbourne Cricket Stadium (MCG). England won the 2022 T20 World Cup following a thrilling five-wicket victory against Pakistan. After winning the toss, England chose to bowl first and limited Pakistan to 137/8 in 20 overs. Ben Stokes scored an unbeaten 52-run knock in 49 balls to lead England to their second World Cup title.

This was England’s second T20I World Cup triumph, having previously won the tournament in 2010 after defeating Australia in the final in the West Indies. England is now the current champion of both 50 overs and 20 overs World Cup. With that being said, let’s know about the list of award winners in this tournament.

Throughout the competition, England’s all-rounder Sam Curran was in top form. Even in the final, he bowled wonderfully, picking up three crucial wickets while giving only 12 runs in four overs. Sam Curran finished the 2022 T20 World Cup as England’s leading wicket-taker. He was named the player of the event after taking 13 wickets at an outstanding economy rate of 6.52.
Most Runs Scored – Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli of Team India was the leading run-scorer in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Virat Kohli scored 296 runs in six games with a strike rate of 136.40 and an average of 98.66. He scored four half-centuries, with his highest score of 82* coming against India’s arch-rivals Pakistan in India’s first group game. Suryakumar Yadav was the second one to score the most runs in the World Cup. He scored 239 runs in six games with an average of 59.75 and a strike rate of 189.68. He scored three half-centuries with the best score of 68.
Most wickets taken – Wanindu Hasaranga
Wanindu Hasaranga of Sri Lanka finished the 2022 T20 World Cup with the most wickets. Hasarnaga is also the current number-one T20I bowler, having taken 15 wickets with an economy of 6.41 in eight games. Hasaranga was the tournament’s leading wicket-taker for the second time in the T20 World Cup.
The ICC confirmed that a total prize pool of $5.6 million (£5.05m/A$8.8m/INR463.9m) will be shared among the teams at the 2022 T20 World Cup with the winner taking home $1.6 million.
