T20 World Cup 2021: Plans for India to remain the hosts for the world cup slated later this year continue to remain intact as of now
When the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League was curtailed midway owing to a flare of COVID cases in teams, the main concern was if the T20 World Cup would go ahead as planned in the country.
Scheduled for later this year, the showpiece competition was in fear of being shifted away from India. With India reeling under a severe second wave of COVID, many believed that ICC could be forced to taking the world cup to a new location.

However, a BCCI source has gone onto assuage those fears. Speaking ahead of the BCCI’s Special General Meeting slated for 29 March, the source talked about how India were still in the pipeline to host the marquee event.
He also gave an indication of the world cup being taken to UAE in case the conditions in India were not touted as being viable to conduct the competition.
“Right now, India is the host venue for the World Cup. That’s how the Board is seeing it. If things go awry again, then a call will be taken only after the month of June. And yes, UAE is the second option,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
Although India are currently seeing a calamitous string of positive Coronavirus cases, the situation in the country is steadfastly improving. The declining numbers and the dedicated approach of the government to mitigate the threat of the disease are seeing the country overhaul its predicament.
Given the improvement in things, the country could be in a good situation come October and November, the timeframe to hold the T20 World Cup.
The BCCI is meanwhile also set to discuss where to hold the remainder of the IPL at the SGM. The Indian Premier League still has 31 matches to be held in this season.
