The 45-year-old had a challenging tenure as Swansea’s manager, and the team had been having trouble staying consistent this year. Alan Sheehan, Martin Paterson’s fellow assistant head coach, has taken over as interim manager.
When Swansea takes on second-bottom Rotherham United on Saturday in an attempt to win their first league game in five, Sheehan will begin his interim position.
Nathan Jones is the frontrunner for the job.
Since departing Southampton in February, the former manager has not been employed by a club. Bookmakers have Nathan Jones as their early favourite to succeed Michael Duff at Swansea City. Jones, who turned down the opportunity to take over at Rotherham United, is still without a club after being linked to the position prior to the Northern Irishman taking over.
Swans sources repeatedly denied reports that he would take over last summer, and the club’s management would be courageous to appoint someone who has never concealed his fondness for fierce rivals Cardiff City. Still, he’s the early favourite to replace Duff in SA1, and BetVictor has him set at 5/4 to win the race.
It could help support Jones’ early favourite status even more that current temporary manager Alan Sheehan, who is also in the race, was Jones’ assistant at Southampton and Luton Town. Otherwise, Chris Davies might have been hired the first time around if he hadn’t decided to join Ange Postecoglu’s coaching staff in the summer. His pricing is 6/4.
John Eustace, who has already been considered for the position twice, is also one of the front-runners. With his departure from Birmingham City earlier in the season, the 44-year-old has been without a club.
Among the other names touted are Steve Cotterill, Luke Williams, the manager of Notts County, and Steve Morison, the former manager of Cardiff.
Swansea City’s next manager’s odds
- Nathan Jones 5/4
- Chris Davies 6/4
- John Eustace 11/4
- Luke Williams 10/1
- Steve Cotterill 10/1
- Alan Sheehan 20/1
- Steve Morison 25/1
- Steve Evans 25/1
- Steve Bruce 25/1
- Stephen Kenny 25/1
