The Vince Lombardi Trophy is an iconic sports trophy, marking the success and teamwork of the winning team throughout the entire NFL season.
Vince Lombardi Trophy design
The NFL introduced the Vince Lombardi Trophy in 1970, naming it after Vince Lombardi, former head coach of the Green Bay Packers. While serving as their head coach, he led the team to victories in the first two Super Bowl games. The trophy features a regulation-size silver football placed on top of a pyramid-like stand.
The trophy roughly weighs around 107.3 ounces and stands at a height of 20.75 inches. Tiffany & Co., a luxury jewellery company, is the company that crafts the trophy each year. The process of designing and making the trophy involves meticulous craftsmanship, and the entire production process takes about 72 hours spread across a period of four months. Interestingly, ever since Super Bowl XLV, the Super Bowl logo design features the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Vince Lombardi Trophy value
Each year, the winning team gets to retain the official Lombardi Trophy for life. Each trophy is valued at over $10,000, and players often receive mini replicas, which are worth around $1,500 each. Aside from the replicas, the players also receive Super Bowl rings. Unlike the Stanley Cup, the NFL crafts a new Lombardi Trophy for each successive Super Bowl.
