To clinch title of 2022 Sultan of Johor Cup, the Indian junior men’s hockey team put on a tenacious performance against Australia before winning 1-1 (5-4) in penalty shootout. After regulation time ended with a 1-1 tie between the two sides, the game was decided by nine penalty shots apiece.

In the much-anticipated final of 2022 Sultan Johor Cup, India clinched title after stunning Australia 5-4 in a dramatic penalty shootout, ending a five-year title drought. During the final, Sudeep gifted lead to India with a field goal in the 13th minute, but Jack Hollad equalized with goal in 28th minute. Ultimately, both teams finished at 1-1 tie after regulation time, which forced the game to penalty shootout. After five attempts of each team, India were still tied with Australia 3-3 in shootout, which caused the match go to sudden-death. In the end, Sudeep scored winning goal of shootout after Australia’s Joshua Brook missed his own to give India winning chance.

Elsewhere, Great Britain defeated Japan by score of 3-1 to finish at third-place in this tournament. For England, Heigh, Vallely, and Jamie each scored one goal while Saeki was the lone scorer for Japan. In a different match, South Africa defeated hosts Malaysia 3-2 to finish in fifth place and avoid bottom-place finish. After culmination of tournament, Indian star Sharda Nand Tiwari finished as top-scorer with seven goals while Australia’s Cooper Burns finished second with six goals.
