Following the shocking events of episode 3, HBO has released a mid-season trailer for the show, teasing how the storyline will progress. The video depicts a power struggle between the Waystar Royco board of directors and the Roy children. In addition, the family will have to compete with billionaire tech mogul Lukas Matsson.
Meanwhile, the country is heading toward presidential elections, and a far-right candidate could further alter Waystar Royco’s dynamics. “The sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson is getting closer,” according to the season’s official synopsis.
It further reads “The prospect of this seismic sale provokes existential angst and familial division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will look like once the deal is completed. A power struggle ensues as the family weighs up a future where their cultural and political weight is severely curtailed.”
The season will consist of ten episodes, which will begin airing on March 26th. This will be the show’s final season, with the season and series finale set to air on May 28th. While Succession will conclude with season 4, the showrunners have hinted at the possibility of future spin-offs.
In a statement, the creator of the franchise, Jesse Armstrong said that “This is the muscular season to exhaust all our reserves of interest, and I think there’s some pain in all these characters that’s really strong. But the feeling that there could be something else in an allied world, or allied characters, or some of the same characters — that’s also strong in me.”
