Named after the visionary Indian Air Force Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee, this inter-school football tournament has been a beacon for nurturing football prowess since its inception in 1960. This year, the Subroto Cup 2023 is all set to kick off on September 19, promising an exciting showcase of young and vibrant talent.

Traditionally held in Delhi and Gurugram, the Subroto Cup 2023 will break new ground as it extends its footprint to Bengaluru.
Another significant development for this year’s Subroto Cup is its collaboration with the All India Football Federation (AIFF). This partnership reflects the tournament’s growth and commitment to developing football at the grassroots level.
Additionally, age determination will be conducted using the TW3 method, and all participating players will be registered under the AIFF’s Centralized Registration System (CRS).
In a bid to internationalize the tournament, teams from Nepal and Bangladesh will compete alongside their Indian counterparts. Air Marshal R.K. Anand expressed his commitment to expanding the tournament’s reach globally.
With over 180 matches scheduled, the Subroto Cup 2023 promises an action-packed football extravaganza. The tournament features three categories: Junior Girls (U-17), Sub-Junior Boys (U-14), and Junior Boys (U-17), showcasing a total of 109 teams from 27 Indian states and Union Territories.
In a historic moment for the tournament, a school from Jammu & Kashmir, DNRM Govt. Higher Secondary School, Poonch, will make its debut in the Girls category. This marks the first appearance of Jammu & Kashmir in the Subroto Cup
The defending champions, Pilgrim Higher Secondary School, Dimapur (Nagaland) in the junior boys’ category and St. Patrick’s School, Gumla (Jharkhand) in the junior girls’ category, are gearing up to defend their titles.
The competition is fierce, with teams like Heirok Higher Secondary School, Imphal (Manipur), and Madhyamgram High School (West Bengal) looking to make their mark.
Moreover, young talents like Shivani Toppo, Shaulina Dang, and Vikshit Bara, who previously represented their schools and are now part of the U-17 Indian team

The Subroto Cup 2023’s grand opening ceremony will feature a magnificent parade display by the Air Warrior Drill Team of the Indian Air Force, followed by a colorful cultural performance by the students of Air Force Bal Bharti School.
Renowned TV personality Rannvijay Singha will be the Guest of Honour at this spectacle, which will unfold at the Dr. B.R Ambedkar Stadium in the national capital.

The grand opening and all the matches will be available for streaming on SportsCast India’s YouTube channel. While there won’t be live telecasts on TV channels in India.
