A former associate to Jeffrey Epstein and one-time owner of the New York Post publications, Steven Hoffenberg, has been found dead, know his net worth today and wife

His dead body was discovered by police as they performed a welfare check on him at his home in Derby, Connecticut on Tuesday, Aug 23.

The 77-year-old had spent 17 years in prison as he was convicted of running a $500 million Ponzi scheme in the early 1990s.

As per a statement by the Derby Police Department, they were called to the home in Mount Pleasant St to perform a welfare check at around 8 PM on that day.

Cause of Steven Hoffenberg’s Death?

According to a report by Daily Mail, an initial autopsy found no signs of trauma. Though the cause of his death has not yet been released.

According to the report, it’s still unclear when Steven died, but police are checking his dentals records to confirm his identity.

In their statement, the police department said that his body was “not in a state where a visual identification could be made.”

According to a report by DailyMail, one of Epstein’s abuse victims, Maria Farmer, had contacted police after becoming concerned about Steven Hoffenberg.

The duo has been friends for many years and spoke nearly every day. In an interview, Farmer told the Daily Beast on Wednesday, “He was family to me,” before adding, “I loved him.”

She also revealed that she was concerned as Hoffenberg had been in poor health after being diagnosed with Covid-19.

According to Farmer, Hoffenberg was a kind-hearted person who became another fall guy for Epstein. She further said that in recent years, he was one of the people who supported her during her cancer treatments.

Speaking of his case, back in 1995, Steven pleaded guilty to running one of the largest Ponzi schemes in US history through the debt collection company named Towers Financial Corporation, which he ran with Epstein.

He and Epstein lived a high life for years before their company collapsed.

Later he even went on to sue Epstein, claiming that he was the mastermind of the enterprise and that he was the mysterious source of the late pedophile’s wealth.

When Epstein died in prison while awaiting his trial for child sex trafficking in 2019, Hoffenberg opened up to the Washington Post that Epstein had been the “architect of the scam.”

His estranged daughter, who asked not to reveal her name, told the Daily Beast in a report that he wasn’t an active part of her life.

In her interview, Farmer also revealed that, “The world lost a true gentleman with one of the kindest hearts and one of the most loving souls I’ve ever met. He was so loyal. He was always there.”

Speaking of his wealth, once Hoffenberg rented an entire floor of Trump Tower and later he said to Farmer that, “Donald’s crowd was my crowd.” He was placed on suicide watch in July after he attempted to strangulate himself and his estate is worth approximately $500 million.

On July 10, 2014, he married Post All Star News president, Maria Santiago, after a one month romance and the ceremony was held in front of Trump Tower in Manhattan.
