Prediction

After obtaining a first-round bye, Stefanos Tsitsipas will face Dan Evans in the 2022 Paris Masters second round on Wednesday.

Tsitsipas has persisted in playing consistently and secured his position at the top of the men’s game. He reached the Australian Open quarterfinals before falling to Felix Auger-Aliassime in the Rotterdam Open final. Despite another couple of strong performances, the Greek was unable to reach the final eight at Indian Wells and Miami. However, Tsitsipas enjoyed a successful clay-court swing that started with a successful title defence at the Monte-Carlo Masters and ended with a fourth-round exit at the French Open. He won his second championship of the year in Mallorca, but at Wimbledon, he faced an early-round loss.

Tsitsipas finished runner up at the Western & Southern Open but was knocked out of the US Open in the opening round. He then ended up as a finalist at Astana and Sofia but was defeated by Novak Djokovic and Holger Rune, respectively.

On the other hand, Dan Evans and Brandon Nakashima faced off in the first round. He broke the serve of his rival early to take the lead (3-1) and again late to capture the first set. Similar things happened in the second set, but Nakashima triumphed this time. In the third game of the set, the American broke Evans’ service to go up 2-0 and win the set. The American took an early lead. In the fifth game of the third set, the British player broke Nakashima’s serve to take a 3-2 lead. He boosted his lead to 4-2 with a hold of serve. The American afterwards saved a few match points to make it 5-4. Evans eventually managed to end the match, winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in the process.

Tsitsipas was eliminated from the competition in Vienna early last week after a few outstanding performances. He will be eager to get back on track despite his less than great record in Paris. He hasn’t made it past the second round in any of his previous two visits to this venue. The Greek’s next adversary, however, should put him at ease.
In addition to failing to win more than three games every set, Evans has yet to overcome the World No. 5 in a set. Since he can manage the British player’s style of play reasonably well, Tsitsipas ought to be able to defeat him once more.
