Dennis Novak, a local favourite, was Tsitsipas’ opponent in the first round of the Vienna tournament. The Austrian seized an early lead in the first set, 4-3, but the World No. 5 tied the score in the very next game. Following that, the pair proceeded to serve consistently, which led to a tie-break. Tsitsipas triumphed in the subsequent tie-break to take the set. In order to start the second set, he broke his opponent’s serve. He then added a hold of his own to make the score 2-0. Novak changed the Greek’s momentum and made it 2-1 with a serve hold. Tsitsipas then won three games in a row to extend his lead to 5-1. Soon after, he won the match 7-6 (2), 6-2, serving out the match.

On the other hand, Borna Coric faced a qualifier named Quentin Halys in the opening round. The French player gained an early break to take a 3-0 lead in the opening set. He had more than enough time to win the set with this lone break. The two players kept up their consistency on serve for the majority of the second set, but Coric began to exert pressure as the game came to a close.

He got a few set points on his rival’s serve at 5-4 but was unable to win the match. The Croatian tried again when Halys served to keep the score knotted at 6-5, and this time he was successful in breaking the Frenchman’s serve to take the set. Then, in the decisive set, Coric quickly built a 4-1 advantage that Halys was unable to overturn. By scores of 3-6, 7-5, and 6-3, the Croat finished off a comeback triumph while holding the lead the entire time.

The Greek’s backhand is frequently challenged. He’ll need to use his shot more sparingly in this game. Since Tsitsipas has been in far better shape than Coric over the past several weeks, he will be the favourite to win this contest.
