Sanju Samson is said to have been ruled out of the first ODI owing to a knee injury with his selection for the remainder encounters up in the air as well
Ahead of the first ODI between Sri Lanka and India, Indian supporters were ardently awaiting the announcement of the playing 11. With a raft of fresh names inducted in the country’s squad as the main contingent travelled to England, this tour of Sri Lanka was a chance for young starlets to make their presence felt.
Apart from Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan, one player who was eagerly awaited on the international arena was Sanju Samson. Seeing cleaning the ball in the nets prior to Sunday’s first ODI, Samson clean striking abilities were much awaited by lovers of the game.
However, in what came across as a bitter disappointment to Indian supporters, Sanju Samson was left out of the country’s playing 11. Mumbai Indians’ Ishan Kishan was asked to keep wickers instead as the Rajasthan Royals man failed to make the cut.
Sri Lanka vs India First ODI Live: Sanju Samson Ruled Out With Knee Injury
It has now been reported that it was an injury issue which kept Sanju Samson sidelined from the match on Sunday. The Kerala based wicket-keeper is said to be on the injury bed currently with a knee injury.
While there’s been no update on the injury by the BCCI, reports have further gone onto state that Samson could end up missing the entire ODI and T20 series owing to his plight. It’s a massive setback for the starlet for whom this tour finally looked to be his chance to impress on the big stage and prove his mettle.
Sanju will now turn his attention to the IPL as he looks to repeat last year’s heroics for Rajasthan Royals. While his clean hitting ability is well documented, his inability to consistently pile on the runs has refrained him from making his place on the international stage.
