Sri Lanka vs India 2021: Five Players Decline To Sign SLC Contract As Sri Lankan Cricket Further Sinks Into A Soup

Sri Lanka cricket (SLC), once an invincible Alpha team, seems to be in a slump in recent years. Players are now refusing to sign the contract offered by the Sri Lanka cricket board

The dispute between the athletes and the management appears to be intensifying the situation for the Continental titans. Another issue has developed in the run-up to the series against India.

Five Players Refuse To Sign Sri Lanka Cricket Contract Ahead Of Sri Lanka vs India 2021 Series

Five players have declined to sign the agreement for the upcoming series against India. Tour contracts were offered to Lasith Embuldeniya, Vishwa Fernando, Lahiru Kumara, Ashen Bandara, and Kasun Rajitha, but all of them declined.

According to SLC CEO Ashley de Silva, all participants were expected to sign contracts and join the bio-bubble.

“Until the national contract issue is resolved they were asked to sign the tour contract if they are going to be available for the Indian series so that they can go into a bubble as we are investing in them. But they were reluctant to sign the tour contract and therefore they were left out of the residential camps,” said Ashley de Silva.

As per the officials the opportunity to play again in the series hasn’t been shut yet, the players are given ample prospects to sign the agreements before training.

The five Sri Lankans have proposed a tour contract, based on the given term the athletes would be considered for the National selection for the Indian Tour. For India’s tour, players must have the contract, which these five players have refused to sign as they were an eminent part of the 24 member squad.

To conclude De Silva highlighted that the players would be counted in by the selectors, on the radar before the commencement of the training before India’s tour.

For Sri Lanka, the latest development across as a massive setback to the team’s aspirations of clawing out of the pickle it is in. The team has most recently been clobbered by England with a raft of players banned for one year for violating the bio-bubble.
