Jimmy Hill, who worked with him at ITV Sport, suggested that he change his name to Dickie Davies. This name stuck, and he used it as his professional name from then on.

Dickey Davies became well-known as the host of the popular British sports show World of Sport, which ran from 1965 to 1985. At first, he filled in for Eamonn Andrews.
