The 2023 Sport Climbing World Cup, which is the 35th edition of the competition will begin on April 21, check out the competition preview, schedule, full schedule, how to watch live, and more

The competition will feature 18 events taking place across 11 countries with hundreds of athletes taking part.

The IFSC Sport Climbing World Cup will begin its first 2023 event in Hachioji, Japan, on April 21. Following which, the competition will travel across different countries and continents up until September 22, in Wujiang, China.

The 2023 season will feature a total of 12 World Cups with a total of 18 events: 6 boulder, 6 lead, and 6 speed.

Sport Climbing World Cup 2023 season preview

Asia will be the first to host the top sport climbers this year with the first boulder World Cup event in Japan. The second event will then feature two disciplines – boulder and lead – in Seoul, Korea. Meanwhile, the third event will feature only speed in Indonesia.

Later in May, the USA will host the World Cup in Salt Lake City. The athletes will then head to Europe, where the Czech Republic and Italy will host boulder events.

The lead World Cup will then start in June in Austria, which is the same location that will host the boulder World Cup. Other classic spots like Switzerland (Villars), France (Charmonix and Briançon), and Slovenia will welcome athletes again for the eighth year in a row.

The results at the upcoming 2023 World Cup events are highly important as it will determine the invitations for the Olympic Qualifier Series. The Olympic Qualifier Series is the last event for athletes to get a ticket for Paris 2024. Athletes will progress based on the international events results / rankings.
