Did referee Tony Brothers call Spencer Dinwiddie a “b*** and MFer”? Have a look
There has been a lot of discussion about the recent incident involving Tony Brothers and Dallas Mavericks guard Spencer Dinwiddie. In addition to Chandler Parsons, another former NBA player, Shams Charania has provided an update on the situation.
Spencer Dinwiddie Reveals He Was Belittled By NBA Referee Tony Brothers
As the referee yelled at the guard, the exchange between Dinwiddie and Brothers came under scrutiny. Brothers gave the Mavericks guard a technical foul for challenging a foul call. The situation was not resolved, though. Dinwiddie asserted that throughout the game, Brothers frequently referred to him in obscene terms. He clarified, though, that this wasn’t directed at him as much as it was against one of his teammates.
Dinwiddie said, “If you watch the games, and I know that’s what refs are supposed to do, you’ll see I clap to get the attention of my teammates, things of that nature, so it was nothing personal. As a man, I would like to say I’m sorry, first and foremost. And secondarily, I would like to say not only would I like my money back, but I would like to not be called a ‘b****-ass motherf***er’ to my teammates.”
On the court, players and referees rarely get along, but Dinwiddie and Brothers’ relationship drew the media’s attention. Dinwiddie apologised for any confusion that may have occurred, but the problem has not been resolved. In an interview with FanDuel TV, Shams Charania of The Athletic provided an update on the situation. Charania further stated that the NBA would investigate into the charges made by Dinwiddie.
Then, the former NBA player on the panel, Chandler Parsons, gave Charania some consultant. Having taken part in games where Brothers served as an official, Parsons also shared his thoughts on the officials.
Parsons noted that the official frequently engaged in chitchat with the players and that this kind of back-and-forth was typical of him. Unfortunately, he also said that in today’s world, this can be taken out of context and lead to some offence.
In response to Spencer Dinwiddie’s allegations, Jason Kidd, the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, pledged to check into the situation and determine what transpired. Following the game against the Toronto Raptors, Kidd discussed the circumstance. Kidd had to meet with his player to get further information despite saying that Brothers is a well-liked referee in the league.
