Goals from Luca Modric and Karim Benzema guided Madrid to a victory over Bilbao who were left absolutely dejected after suffering the 2-0 loss in the final. Modric found the back of the net in the first half of the game, giving his side a 1-0 lead which was later converted into a 2-0 advantage, courtesy of Karim Benzema’s penalty.
We witnessed an amazing save from Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois in the 86th minute when Athletic Bilbao were awarded with a penalty, soon after Militao picked up a late red card. Raul Garcia stepped up to convert the penalty into a goal but was unable to do so as Courtois showcased his brilliance at the right time for the Whites.
Spanish Super Cup Final: Man Of The Match
Croatia skipper Luka Modric received the man of the match award in the Spanish Super Cup final for his usual display of excellence which saw him netting the opener for Real Madrid. The goal came in the 38th-minute when Modric struck a splendid first-time curling effort, which landed straight into the top corner.
Here’s what the Croatian midfielder had to say, “I’m really happy to win and claim the first trophy of the season”. “Humble as always,” he added by saying that being named man of the match is not the most important thing for him and that the most important thing is getting the win and the first trophy of the season.
Spanish Super Cup 2022 Winner Prize Money Pool Breakdown
The winners of the Spanish Super Cup will be awarded a prize money of 3.8 million Euros, whereas the runner-up will receive an amount of 2.8 million Euros. The first stage of the tournament i.e. the semi-final will have both the winner and losers get paid an amount of 800,000 Euros each. So taking into consideration the fact that the winner of the Super Cup also would have won the semi-final naturally, they take home a total of 3.8 million Euros + 800k Euros for an amount which equals to 4.6 million Euros.
Not to forget that the players even get bonuses for winning the Spanish Super Cup, something which is clearly stated in their respective contracts. Besides these amounts, players also receive individual prize awards like top scorer, best goalkeeper, best defender among others but it is highly unlikely that they collect any cash prize with these awards.
