Rebranded as the Supercopa de Espaรฑa under Luis Rubialesโ presidency, the 2024 edition adopts the โFinal Fourโ format in Saudi Arabia, set to persist until 2029. The roots of the Supercopa de Espaรฑa trace back to the former Copa Eva Duarte, evolving significantly over time.
Originally linked to the champions of LaLiga and the Copa del Rey, the competition regained prominence in 1982 under Josep Lluรญs Nรบรฑezโs initiative, morphing into the Copa Eva Duarte tradition.
From a single-match neutral venue in its early days, the format shifted in 1994, and the Super Cup was moved earlier in the calendar. Various alterations followed, including involving the Copa del Rey runner-up in 1996 and a return to a single-match format in 2018.
Ever since 2019-20 season, the competition has been held in Saudi Arabia with a format of โFinal Four.โ The Spanish Super Cup trophy, distinct from LaLiga and Copa del Rey, is a permanent award crafted by Alegre de Madrid.
Standing at 58 centimeters and weighing about two kilograms, it features a wooden pedestal adorned with the badges of participating teams, the Spanish Federationโs crest, and a commemorative plaque.
This edition introduces innovations in refereeing, allowing fans to listen to refereesโ conversations during VAR reviews. The Technical Committee of Referees aims to enhance transparency and understanding of refereeing work.

Financially, the relocation to Saudi Arabia has been a topic of debate, with a hosting fee of โฌ40 million ($43.8 million) compensated to the RFEF. Real Madrid and Barcelona are expected to earn โฌ6 million ($6.57 million) each, Atlรฉtico Madrid โฌ3 million ($3.29 million), and Osasuna about โฌ800,000 ($876,000).
The champion will receive โฌ2 million ($2.19 million), and the runner-up โฌ1 million ($1.1 million). In addition, Madrid teams and Barรงa will contribute an extra โฌ200,000 ($219,000) each to Osasuna. Despite the dominance of Real Madrid and Barcelona in potential earnings, Atlรฉtico could contend if victorious.
