Cambodia is set to host the 32nd edition of the SEA Games in Phnom Penh from 5 to 17 May.

The competition will feature 11 nations from across Southeast Asia in a total of 581 events, with athletics being one of the most highly anticipated events.
Southeast Asian SEA Games 2023 athletics competition preview
The athletics events at the Southeast Asian Games 2023 will begin with the marathon and race walk on 6 May. Following which Morodok Techo Stadium in Phnom Penh will host all the track & field action from 8 May. The women’s and men’s 4 x 400m relay finals will be the last athletics event on Friday 12 May.
Indonesia’s Lalu Muhammad Zohri will be one of the stars worth watching following a historic 100m gold at the World U20 Championships in 2018. Zohri is the first-ever Indonesian male to win a medal in the history of the World U20 championships. He also won a silver at the Asian Championships 2019.
In the women’s 400m, Malaysia’s Shereen Vallabuoy is another star worth watching. She holds the title of the fastest-ever Malaysian with 51.8 seconds at the Mt SAC Relays Athletics Championship. She will compete in both the 400m and 4 x 400m relays in Cambodia.
Another star worth watching is Singapore’s Shanti Pereira. Shanti is the 2015 and 2021 Southeast Asian Games 200m champion. Irfan Shamsuddin from Malaysia, who is a five-time Southeast Asian Games discus champion is another athlete worth watching.
