Here is all you need to know about Artistic gymnastics at Southeast Asian Games 2023 and the full schedule and where to watch

The artistic gymnastics competition will once again be a standout event at the Southeast Asian Games 2023, which will be held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, from May 5–17 and offer eight medal opportunities.

Only the men’s division of artistic gymnastics will be available at the SEA Games in 2023, and each gymnast will only be allowed to compete in a maximum of four disciplines.

The two-day event takes place on May 8 and 9 at the National Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh in the Olympic Marquee.

The top eight athletes on each apparatus proceed to the finals, which are divided into two afternoon sessions the following day. The team and individual all-around medals are decided on the first day.

Six-time world medalist Carlos Yulo is expected to be in the mix a fortnight before the Cambodia 2023 gymnastics competition gets underway on Monday, May 8.

This is despite the fact that the Filipino withdrew from the FIG Apparatus World Cup in Cairo, Egypt due to an ankle injury.

It is predicted that the two-time world champion will take part in the horizontal bar, parallel bars, and individual all-around competitions.

With half of his 14 medals from the Southeast Asian Games being gold, Yulo will be trying to extend that total.

The Vietnamese team, which includes Juancho Miguel Besana, who won a bronze medal on vault at the SEA Games in 2021, will put a lot of pressure on Yulo and his teammates.

When they previously competed, the Vietnamese squad won an astonishing four of the eight gold medals for men, including the team competition.

Additionally, Dang Ngoc Xuan Thien will defend his titles on pommel horse and the horizontal bar (shared with Yulo), while Dinh Phuong Thanh will attempt to defend his titles on parallel bars.

Singaporean Tay Wei-An Terry, who took part in his first SEA Games in 2011, won silver in the floor competition at the SEA Games in Hanoi in 2021.

He will have the honour of hoisting the national flag on May 5 during the Cambodia 2023 opening ceremony.
