Know the next new manager for Southampton betting odds
Jones, who was appointed in November to take over for Ralph Hasenhuettl, is the second manager of the Saints to be fired this year. He was Luton Town’s manager in the past.
Southampton has sacked head coach Nathan Jones.
Following his three months in charge of the south coast team, Southampton fired Nathan Jones on Sunday. The team produced just one Premier League win during his tenure. The Saints advanced to the League Cup semifinals and the FA Cup fifth round. However, they were unable to advance out of the league’s relegation zone and remained at the bottom of the rankings.

In their previous eight league games, Southampton had only one victory, which came last month against a helpless Everton team. Jones’ time as manager came to an end on Saturday as Wolverhampton Wanderers overcame the Saints 2-1 while down to ten men. Along with Jones, the first-team coaches Chris Cohen and Alan Sheehan will also leave. After 22 games, the Saints have 15 points, which puts them four points outside the postseason picture.
Official statement
“Southampton Football Club can confirm that Men’s First Team Manager Nathan Jones has left the organisation. Chris Cohen and Alan Sheehan, first team coaches, have also left the organisation. The first-team coach, Ruben Selles, will be in charge of organising practise and getting the team ready for their encounter against Chelsea the following weekend.”
Who will replace Nathan Jones?
The resignation of Nathan Jones has made it clear who the favourites are to take over as Southampton’s third manager of the year. The Welshman took over for Ralph Hasenhuttl just before the league took a break to prepare for the World Cup in Qatar. Southampton is currently last in the standings and is only four points from being safe.
Odds for the next boss
- Jesse Marsch – 3/1
- Steven Gerrard – 4/1
- Marcelo Gallardo – 6/1
- Sam Allardyce – 8/1
- Mauricio Pochettino – 9/1
- Nuno Espirito Santo – 10/1
Jesse Marsch is the front runner for the next Saints boss.
Less than a week after the American’s dismissal by Leeds, Jesse Marsch is vying to succeed Nathan Jones at Southampton. Exactly one day after Leeds’ disastrous 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest last weekend, Marsch was fired on monday. With such outcome, the team is now stuck in 17th place in the Premier League, just one spot above the drop zone.
Marsch, however, might be in line for a quick comeback as fellow relegation-threatened Southampton chose to change their manager as well.
