On Wednesday, June 14, 2023, the South Korean influencer, whose birth name is Byun Ah-Yeong and whose birthday was on March 11, became a subject of a high-profile murder case after her body was found discarded in a pit. Following an immediate investigation, a Chinese couple, identified as Lai Wenshao, 30, and Cai Huijuan, 39, were charged with the chilling crime.
Cambodian police on Monday identified the body of a Korean female found abandoned near Phnom Penh earlier this month of the 33-year-old broadcast jockey who was active on YouTube and Instagram.
Her body was found on June 6 in a puddle in a small town near Phnom Penh and was wrapped in a red sheet, according to a report by Cambodian local news outlet, Rasmey Kampuchea.
Byeon’s family members arrived in Cambodia on Sunday and local authorities in Cambodia arrested a Chinese couple on Sunday as suspects in Byeon’s death. The police believe the suspects, who are in their 30s and running an illegal medical clinic, transported her body and abandoned her in a puddle, after she had experienced a seizure and died while receiving treatment at their clinic.
According to a local source, it is presumed that the victim died after receiving an intravenous solution or serum injection at the clinic two days after arriving in Cambodia on June 2. She is also rumored to have been found with a swollen face, which raised the possibility of assault, the source said.

The couple, who run a medical clinic, were arrested and formally charged with “murder accompanied by torture”. They revealed to authorities that the unfortunate death occurred when Ahyeong visited their clinic for an unspecified treatment on June 4, 2023. A shocking seizure reportedly led to the influencer’s untimely death, causing the couple to panic and abandon her body on the outskirts of the city.

Even though the couple says they know how Ahyeong died, the judge doesn’t believe them and has charged them with murder with torture as an aggravating factor. Authorities haven’t said much about what happened before the murder, but they have hinted that it was a scary time for the person who died.
Lim Soo-suk, a spokeswoman for South Korea’s foreign ministry, said that Ahyeong’s death was sad and that the family is getting the consular help they need.
