Rohit Sharma was named the new ODI captain and the vice-captain of the test team as the South Africa vs India 2021 series Indian squad was announced

After the woeful debacle of the Indian team at the T20 World Cup, a raft of changes were envisaged in a bid to get the team’s house in order. And it all began with Rahul Dravid taking over as the head coach of the Indian team with Rohit Sharma named as the captain of the T20 setup.

However, despite the chopping, changes were set to come in unabated. And one which was talked about heavily was Rohit Sharma being given charge of the Indian team as the new captain of the ODI side as well with the BCCI having one eye on the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup.

With Rahul Dravid set to be extremely keen on having one captain in white ball cricket, the BCCI finally decided to make the news official on Wednesday. As the governing body announced the country’s test squad for the upcoming test series in South Africa, the latest development of Rohit Sharma displacing Virat Kohli as captain of the ODI side was also revealed.

Rohit was also given charge of the vice-captaincy of the test team with him replacing the struggling Ajinkya Rahane. Rahane meanwhile despite his horrid run managed to hold onto his spot in the team for the South Africa vs India 2021 test series which will get underway later this year.
