The late Hells Angels president passed away on Wednesday at his home, according to NBC News and Barger’s former lawyer Fritz Clapp. In a prepared message put on his open Facebook page on Wednesday, Barger personally announced the news about his own death. In a message, he said,
If you are reading this message, you’ll know that I’m gone. I’ve asked that this note be posted immediately after my passing.
He added,
I’ve lived a long and good life filled with adventure. And I’ve had the privilege to be part of an amazing club. Although I’ve had a public persona for decades, I’ve mostly enjoyed special time with my club brothers, my family, and close friends.

Who Was Sonny Barger?
Sonny Barger, alias. Ralph Hubert Barger, was an American outlaw biker and a founding member of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club’s Oakland, California, chapter in 1957.
On October 8, 1938, he was born in Modesto, California. His father’s name was Ralph Hubert Barger and his mother’s name was Kathryn Carmella Barger. When Barger was 4 months old, his mother left the family, leaving his grandmother and his alcoholic father to raise him and his elder sister Shirley.
While in school, he frequently battled with other students and was frequently suspended from school for attacking instructors. He left school after the 9th grade.
He married four times. First, he married Elsie Mae who died on February 1, 1967. Secondly, he married Gruhlke while he was jailed in 1973. Thirdly, he married Noel and lastly, he married his fourth wife, Zorana, on 25th June 2005 and both happily married until his death.
His Career
In 1956, Barger became a member of the Oakland Panthers, his first motorcycle club. After that club collapsed, he began riding with another group of motorcyclists, one of them, Don “Boots” Reeves. Later on, he established his own organization the Hells Angels, on April 1, 1957.
In addition, he wrote a number of books which include “Hell’s Angel”, “Ridin’ High Livin’ Free,” “Dead In 5 Heartbeats,” “6 Chambers,” “1 Bullet,” “Freedom: Credos from the Road” and his guide to motorcycling “Let’s Ride.”
Apart from this, he also made several appearances on television and acted in movies. In the 1960s, he started his acting career. He had appearances in both the 1967 films “Hell’s Angels on Wheels” and “Hell’s Angels ’69.” Later on, Sonny then appeared in “Gimme Shelter” (1970).
He appeared in “Hell’s Angels Forever” in 1983. He appeared in films with “Willie Nelson,” “Scott Barnes,” “Johnny Paycheck,” “Jerry Garcia,” and more. Barger also played the role of Lenny “The Pimp” Janowitz between 2010 and 2012. He also performed in the 2012 film “Dead in 5 Heartbeats” as well.
