Sol Bamba was employed by Adanaspor in Turkey, and during the weekend, he sadly passed away in a hospital after becoming ill. Born in France, Bamba played 44 times as a midfielder for the Ivory Coast. Prior to joining Hibs, he spent five years in Scotland with Dunfermline.

Regarded as one of life’s good guys, the former PSG graduate’s unparalleled personality was highlighted throughout his 2021 fight against non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Sol Bamba was born on 13 January 1985. He was 6ft 3in tall. Bamba played for Leicester, where he met his wife Chloe, an Englishwoman. Together, they were parents to three kids, Roonea, Lily and Amy . He also had a son from a prior relationship with a woman from Scotland named Jaxxson Shields.


Bamba spoke English, French, Italian, Turkish, and “the Ivorian dialect that his father used at home” in addition to other languages. He completed his primary education in France. After receiving a non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis in 2021, he started receiving chemotherapy. In May 2021, after four months, he declared himself cancer-free.

After Adanaspor’s game against Manisa Football Club on August 30, 2024, he became unwell and was taken to Manisa Celal Bayar University Hospital. On August 31, Bamba passed away in Turkey at the age of 39.

He died this Saturday at the Manisa Celal Bayar University Hospital and Sol Mamba was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma back in January of 2021 and, luckily at the time, just four months later he announced that he was cancer-free.

Sol Bamba career

Sol Bamba began his career at Paris Saint-Germain in his home country of France, he was unable to make an impression on the first squad. He relocated to Scotland in 2006 to play for Dunfermline Athletic, and during his first season there, he helped the team go to the Scottish Cup final. He was moved to Hibernian two years later, then in January 2011 he signed a contract with English team Leicester City.

Before moving to Palermo in 2012, Bamba was transferred for £750,000 to the Turkish team Trabzonspor. Nevertheless, he made just one appearance in six months before being loaned to Leeds United. He finally signed a permanent contract with Leeds, where he was named club captain. He stayed with the team for an additional year until being let go and signing with Cardiff City.

At the age of eleven, Bamba started playing for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), a team in Ligue 1. Club scouts had seen him playing street football in Paris, but he had first declined the club’s offer because his mother wanted him to become a doctor.

He resided in the central Paris suburb of Ivry-sur-Seine with his parents, Bakary and Sehrata Bamba. He moved away from his family’s house to live at the club’s academy since his family could not afford to go to the club’s training facilities outside of the city.

In January 2023, Bamba was named Cardiff City’s assistant manager. After his contract expired in June 2023, he departed the team.

Sol Bamba earned £14,000 per week, £728,000 per year playing for Cardiff City F.C. as a defender and he has an approximate adjusted-for-inflation career gross earnings of $11,463,763.
