The World XI came out on top in the latest Soccer Aid match, pulling off an incredible comeback in a nine-goal thriller at Old Trafford on Sunday night. After losing their winning streak at Stamford Bridge last year, they bounced back in style, with Big Zuu scoring the late winner to seal a 5–4 victory and avoid a penalty shootout.

Carlos Tevez, returning to his old home ground, turned the game around after coming on at half-time, scoring four goals to lead the fightback. His performance helped the World XI recover from a 3–0 deficit and secure their eighth win in the 14-year history of the charity event. Jermain Defoe made his mark for England with two goals off the bench, becoming Soccer Aid’s all-time top scorer.

Wayne Rooney kicked things off with the fastest goal ever in the match’s history, and Toni Duggan added another just before the break. But England couldn’t keep up with Tevez’s second-half surge, as the World XI took control and clinched a dramatic win. The event also raised £15 million for UNICEF, continuing its long-standing support for children in need around the world.

Soccer Aid for UNICEF 2025, broadcast live on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player, has raised an incredible £15,280,163 for UNICEF’s work around the world and since the fundraising match was first founded nearly two decades ago, it has raised more than £121 million.
