Snowpiercer, TNT’s hit sci-fi series, will return for a fourth season, and here’s everything we know so far along with the release date of season 4
Season 3 of Snowpiercer saw the return of Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly), who was thought to be dead at the end of season 2. Melanie turned on Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) and tried to sabotage his plan to bring the train to New Eden in the Horn of Africa, which is thought to be a warm spot on the frozen Earth and they can settle.
Snowpiercer Season 3 Recap
Season 3 of Snowpiercer began with Layton and his inner circle returning to the super train after stealing the engine and disappearing for 6 months. Layton took over Snowpiercer from Mr. Wilford (Sean Bean), but he lied to the passengers, telling them he’d been to New Eden and that a survivor named Asha (Archie Panjabi) came from the Horn of Africa. Pike (Steven Ogg), Layton’s old nemesis, challenged Layton’s authority because he knew Andre lied about New Eden. Layton fell into a coma after killing Pike, and when he awoke, he realised he had made up New Eden.
Meanwhile, Wilford deduced Melanie was still alive, and Snowpiercer launched a rescue mission to bring their Head Engineer back aboard. Melanie realised that Layton’s New Eden plan was dangerous after reuniting with her loved ones, including her daughter Alex (Rowan Blanchard), and she publicly exposed his lie. Melanie took control of the train, igniting a new feud between herself, Layton, and Wilford.
Snowpiercer Season 4 Release Date, Episodes, Filming, Cast, Story, Season 3 Recap
Snowpiercer was renewed for a fourth season by TNT on July 29, 2021, while season three was still in production. This was a huge validation for the TNT post-apocalyptic sci-fi action series, which has been a consistent hit. Season 3 of Snowpiercer was produced in Vancouver under strict COVID 19-protocols, and it stands to reason that the same will be true for season 4 when production resumes in 2022.
Snowpiercer Season 4 Release Date
There is no set release date for Snowpiercer season 4, but it is safe to assume that it will air sometime in 2023. The first season of Snowpiercer premiered on TNT in May 2020, but the second and third seasons were released in January 2021 and 2022, respectively. Given that Snowpiercer will be in production until the end of 2022, it’s possible that Snowpiercer season 4 will premiere in May 2023, similar to season 1. It’s also unclear whether TNT will renew Snowpiercer for a fifth season.
Snowpiercer Season 4 Cast And Story
The majority of Snowpiercer’s season 3 cast is expected to return for season 4, including Jennifer Connelly, who was absent for the majority of seasons 2 and 3. Daveed Diggs, Alison Wright, Rowan Blanchard, Iddo Goldberg, Lena Hall, Mickey Sumner, Sam Otto, Shiela Vand, Mike O’Malley, Roberto Urbina, and Jaylin Fletcher are among the cast members.
However, following the events of Snowpiercer Season 3’s finale, it’s unclear what the future holds for Sean Bean’s Mr. Wilford and whether he’ll return in Season 4. In season 3, many other cast members left Snowpiercer, including Archie Panjabi, Annalise Basso, and Steven Ogg. While anything can happen in Snowpiercer, their characters are unlikely to return. Snowpiercer season 4 will, however, feature two new actors: Michael Aronov and Clark Gregg from Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Snowpiercer’s paradigm is constantly shifting, and by the end of Season 3, half of the train’s passengers were following Andre Layton to New Eden and the rest remaining aboard Snowpiercer under Melanie Cavill’s leadership. Mr. Wilford has left Snowpiercer, and his whereabouts are unknown. Meanwhile, the final scene of Snowpiercer season 3 time-jumped three months to show Melanie witnessing a missile launch into the atmosphere, which could indicate that there is another previously unknown pocket of human survivors in the world. It’s unclear what this means for Snowpiercer in Season 4.
