Local favourite and four-time World Champion Mark Selby was defeated by Mark Davis in a thrilling finale. Selby had a 20-17 advantage with one minute remaining, but missed a simple red to the right corner. Ultimately, Davis emerged victorious by score of 22-20 after potting red, green, & red. In another match of Thursday, Xiao Guodong bagged break of 106 to comfortably win his match and qualify for the next round.

With only a few seconds left, Farakh Ajaib was seven points behind Chris Wakelin when he blasted into a group of reds, fluked one to the top corner, and potted the pink to draw the game. But in the sudden-death shootout, he missed the blue, and Wakelin made the shot to win and advance. Asjad Iqbal of Pakistan defeated David Gilbert with a score of 35-30 courtesy to a late break of 15. In the highlight match of the day, Indian prodigy Himanshu Jain succumbed to defeat by score of 21-56 against Tom Ford and crashed out from the competition.

From the $171,000 total prize pool, it is known that the competition’s winner will get £50,000. In contrast to each semi-final loser’s £8,000 award, the event’s second-place finisher will get £20,000.
