In the video, Brookfield can be heard expressing, “Sorry to hear that,” as he urinates on the elderly man’s back in a restroom.
Dyfed Powys Police has stated that they have charged Leigh Brookfield with common assault in connection to the alleged incident at Llanelli Tennis and Squash Club on Boxing Day.
Brookfield, residing in Dan Y Lan, Llanelli, has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear at Llanelli Magistrates Court.
Leigh Brookfield Posted Apology
Brookfield initially posted an apology on Facebook before deleting his account, stating, “I’m apologizing to you all regarding my actions this evening. I’m deeply sorry for those who I have offended, and if I could take it all back, I would.
“It’s just something me and the boys do when we are drunk, and until watching the video back, I didn’t realize that the nice gentleman next to me was going through health problems.”
The footage, presented in court, shows Brookfield standing next to Peter Barton at the urinals, with Mr. Barton disclosing his serious health issues. Despite the victim being unaware at the time, Brookfield can be heard apologizing while urinating on him.
Llanelli Tennis and Squash Club, expressing their dismay, mentioned that their representatives visited Mr. Barton, who was understandably upset.
They emphasized that the incident involved a person with no association with the club, and they were devastated by the negative attention.
Brookfield Pleaded Guilty
Brookfield pleaded guilty to common assault, acknowledging that he was “absolutely paralytically drunk” during the incident at Llanelli Tennis and Squash Club on Boxing Day, around 8 pm.
The Snapchat video, widely shared on Facebook, sparked backlash. Brookfield, a DJ with a 15-year history in Llanelli venues, has publicly apologized for his behavior and is awaiting sentencing on January 19.
Prior to his court appearance, Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed the investigation into the incident, announcing, “Dyfed-Powys Police has charged 40-year-old Leigh Brookfield, of Dan Y Lan, Llanelli, with common assault in relation to the incident alleged to have taken place at Llanelli Tennis and Squash Club in Llanelli on Boxing Day.
“He has been remanded into custody and will appear at Llanelli Magistrates Court today.”
