Since the news broke on social media, there has been a lot of curiosity. On Sunday, July 9, a Snapchat video of Huw Edwards flashing his b*ttocks led internet users to speculate that he was the unnamed BBC presenter at the centre of the incident.
Huw Edwards is the renowned BBC anchor of Ten O’Clock News
The 61-year-old prominent anchor has been connected to the BBC since 1984. He started off as a news apprentice before rising to the position of BBC Wales’ Parliamentary Correspondent. He served as the BBC Six O’clock News presenter from 1994 to January 2003. Huw Edwards later took over as the primary announcer for the BBC Ten O’clock News and has since become well-known for holding the post.
When the BBC crisis broke last week, rumours on social media circulated the identities of prominent male BBC broadcasters. In addition to Gary Linekar, Amol Rajan, Rylan Lark, Graham Norton, Jeremy Vine, Jason Mohammed, Clive Myrie, Mark Chapman, Faisal Islam, and Jermaine Janus, Huw Edwards has also been under scrutiny.
Rylan Lark, Gary Linekar, and Jeremy Vine have all officially distanced themselves from the incident so far. The internet is scandalised, though, after Huw Edwards’ Snapchat clip of him flashing his buttocks went viral on Sunday.
Explained the BBC presenter controversy in brief
The victim’s mother went to the BBC directly to protest in mid-May about how one of their news presenters had been taking advantage of her teenager by providing them with money (up to 35,000 euros so far).
She said that the host had instructed her teenage son to send him graphic images and even engage in l*wd behaviour during video chats. When the young individual was 17 years old, the romance started in 2020. She also complained about how her kid exploited the cash for drug usage.
Sadly, BBC did not take any steps to stop the suspected broadcaster. In reality, he continued broadcasting until July 5, during which time he joined his coworkers for a prestigious awards event. But this week, the mother told The Sun about her experience in an effort to reveal the presenter’s genuine identity. She described to the news organisation how she saw her youngster undress for a prominent BBC broadcaster.
The victim’s mother also said that the only thing she ever wanted was for the BBC presenter to stop, not an inquiry. She felt, however, that the BBC was “not acting quickly enough on her allegations,” so she was compelled to contact the media. Fascinatingly, both the complaint and The Sun took care to keep the person’s identity a secret.
Following the news’s dissemination last Friday, July 7, the Metropolitan police became involved. Although they had not yet received any official allegations, their spokeswoman stated that they were in communication with BBC as well as the victim’s mother.
According to reports, the concerned BBC broadcaster has been suspended as of now. However, there has been no evidence of this. However, the BBC has acknowledged that a thorough inquiry was still continuing.
