The Sinquefield Cup resumed in Saint Louis after Magnus Carlsen’s interesting withdrawal, this time as a 9-player single round-robin. In round 5, all four games were tied with Wesley So maintaining his lead after draw against Levon Aronian.

2022 Sinquefield Cup Schedule, Date, Format, and Players
Sinquefield Cup continues to be a significant component of the Grand Chess Tour schedule despite being the only location to have ever participated in each tour. Sinquefield Cup, which is yearly sponsored by the Saint Louis Chess Club in America’s chess capital Saint Louis, Missouri, maintains its history of a classic format and will wrap up the 2022 Grand Chess Tour. The competitors’ final chance to gain points toward the overall title will be during this Grand Chess Tour leg.
An impressive roster of players, including Ian Nepomnitachi, Alireza Firouzja, and Magnus Carlsen, competed in the 2022 Sinquefield Cup. The competition is being played in a round-robin format, with the player with the most points at the end of nine rounds winning the Sinquefield Cup.

Sinquefield Cup Grand Chess Tour 2022 Day 5 Results & Updated Standings
The game between the two American Grandmasters Leinier Dominguez and Hans Niemann was the only one in round five of the 2022 Sinquefield Cup that was close to having a winner. Even though he was in a good position, Dominguez failed to take advantage of it, allowing the victory to slip away. The other three games ended in largely uneventful draws. GM Wesley So continues to be in the lead with 3 points as a consequence. After four games, Niemann and Ian Nepomniachtchi are in second place with 2.5 points.
The players should return on Thursday, when the games resume at 2:00 PM PT, with renewed energy as Wednesday is the designated rest day. Hans Niemann will face Wesley in round six while Mamedyarov will face Firouzja.
