Sinia Mihajlkovic was a Serbian professional football player and manager. Having a Serb father and a Croat mother, he was born in Vukovar into a working-class family. The younger brother of Mihajlovi, Draen, was also raised at Borovo Naselje. Their mother Viktorija worked in a shoe factory while their father Bogdan drove a truck.
Career
Sinia Mihajlkovic started his professional football career as a defender and a midfielder. He won the European Cup with Red Star Belgrade in 1991 before heading to Italy and taking his career to new heights with clubs such as Inter Milan and AS Roma.
In 2006, he opted to retire from the game and get into coaching. He was the manager of AC Milan, Fiorentina, and the Serbian national team. He returned to Bologna in January 2018 to become their head coach for the second time in his coaching career. Mihajlkovic was sacked in September 2022 as a result of Bolgns’ poor Serie A results. In his international career, Mihajlkovic played for Yugoslavia in the World Cup and European Championships between 1991 and 2003.
Mihajlkovic was recognised as one of the best free-kick takers throughout his playing career, and he even scored three free-kick goals in a single Serie A game. With 28 goals from free kicks, Mihajlkovic still holds the Serie A record.
