Through a post on Instagram, his sister Tamara Powell revealed the tragic news of his passing. She wrote,
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, and uncle Jesse Powell.
She further added,
He passed away peacefully in his Los Angeles home. The family asks for privacy at this time as we mourn this tremendous loss and celebrate his everlasting legacy.

He was born on September 12, 1971, in Gary, Indiana, United States. He has three siblings and their names are Trina, Tamara, and Jacob. His family performed in local talent shows.
He died on September 13, 2022, in Los Angeles, California, United States. At the time of his death, he was 51 years old and was umarried.
His Career
Jesse Powell was signed to Louil Silas’ Silas Records label after an artist presentation.
He completed work on his debut record three years later. In March 1996, his debut song, “All I Need,” was made public. On March 12, 1996, he released an album of the same name. Later the same year, Powell released a second single, a cover of the timeless song “Gloria,” which became another number-one hit (No. 51 R&B).
The lead single from Powell’s second album, “I Wasn’t with It,” was released in 1998 as he started work on it. His sophomore album, “Bout It,” was released on September 8, 1998, helped by the single’s popularity.
The song “You,” which was initially on Powell’s self-titled debut, became popular and was included in his album “Bout It,” which was released as the second single in February 1999. Later that year, production began on his third album as well as a third single called “‘Bout It, ‘Bout It.”
Powell’s debut single on the label, “If I,” was released in 2000 when Silas Records and MCA Records merged. On March 27, 2001, “JP,” his third studio album, was released. Powell promoted the album and released a second single, “Something in the Past.”
He parted ways with the label in 2002 and joined Riviera Records. On October 14, 2003, he released his fourth studio album, “Jesse,” which featured the songs “By the Way” and “Touching It Tonight.” It was his last album and after that. he took retirement from the music industry.
