Shreyas Iyer sustained an injury before IPL 2021 started in April and missed the first half of the marquee league
Delhi Capitals since changing their name back in December 2018 have been one of the most consistent performers in the Indian Premier League. They qualified for the play-offs in 2019 for only the second time in the history of the Indian Premier League.
Delhi also played the final of the Indian Premier League 2020 which was played in the UAE. This was their first final in 13 years of the tournament. Although, they lost the final against the Mumbai Indians but their team has improved a lot in recent years. They were at the top of the points table after the first half of IPL 2021.
Shreyas Iyer to Return To IPL 2021 In UAE After Injury
Shreyas Iyer played a very crucial role in Delhi Capitals’ success in the past few editions of the Indian Premier League. Iyer led the side from the front and very maturely as a captain. He brought together all the young players as a team and it reflected in their performance.
Under his captaincy, Delhi Capitals made their appearance for the first in the history of the IPL. Iyer sustained a shoulder injury just before the IPL 2021 and was out for the whole tournament. But now when IPL 2021 is postponed due to covid-19 and is scheduled to start from September, Iyer is expected to be back in the Delhi Capitals squad.
Iyer told that it’ll take him about a month more to be completely fit and be back in action. “My shoulder, yes, I think the healing process is done. Now it’s the last stage of achieving strength and range. Other than that, I feel, I will be there in the IPL.”, he said.
Iyer Talks About Delhi Capitals Captaincy
Rishabh Pant was appointed as the captain after Iyer was ruled out of IPL 2021 and he did a fantastic job as the captain. Delhi is at the top in the points table of IPL 2021 after the first half.
“I don’t know about the captaincy, it’s in the hands of the owners. My main aim and goal to lift the trophy which Delhi has never done before“, he said talking about the captaincy.
