In the opening segment of the evening, Brecel applied pressure with a break of 65, narrowing the score to 6-5. Soon after, O’Sullivan regained his two-frame lead by winning the 12th frame. However, Brecel responded impressively with breaks of 55 and 56, equalizing the score at 7-7 before the mid-session break.

When the match resumed, O’Sullivan displayed a remarkable performance, surging towards victory. He crafted breaks of 143 and 120, securing three consecutive frames, bringing the score to 10-7 and putting himself one frame away from the title.

In an intense 18th frame, O’Sullivan had opportunities to clinch the title, but Brecel’s sensational long-distance double on the final black extended the match to 10-8. Subsequently, Brecel managed to pull within a single frame, scoring 83 and making it 10-9. The 20th frame was another tense affair, but this time O’Sullivan successfully secured the title with a decisive shot on the blue.

2023 Shanghai Masters: prize money distribution

Ronnie O’Sullivan, the victor of the competition, is set to be awarded £210,000 from the total prize fund of $825,000, while Luca Brecel, the current world champion, will receive £105,000 as the Shanghai Masters runner-up.
