According to reports, the central allegation involves a now 19-year-old woman who claims she was r*ped by Joseph on March 3, 2023, at a residence in New Amsterdam, Berbice.

A young woman from Berbice is said to have accused him of r*pe, while other women including a teenager, have reportedly alleged instances of se*ual assault and inappropriate behavior. The allegations, which were initially regarded as credible, appear to have been overshadowed owing to the emotional strain experienced by the alleged victim.
According to Caribbean media, in 2022, Shamar Joseph raped his cousin and was in lock-up for two days. Then, a settlement happened between the families. In 2023, he raped another woman. Here, cricket administrators helped him cover up the cases so that he can play cricket for WI.

West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph has come under serious scrutiny following multiple allegations of se*ual misconduct, as reported by Kaieteur News and SportsMax TV. Among the accusations was a claim of r*pe by a young woman, along with other reports of inappropriate behavior from multiple women, including a teenager. At the time the allegations came to light, the 25-year-old cricketer was representing the West Indies national team in a home Test series against Australia.
He been accused by at least 11 women, including a teenager, of r*pe, s*xual assault, harassment, and unwanted advances.
According to reports, the incident involving the primary complainant was alleged to have occurred on March 3, 2023, at a residence in New Amsterdam, Berbice, when she was 18 years old. Her family shared with Kaieteur News that she had trusted Joseph, recalling that she had informed her mother of plans to meet him and expected to return home by a certain time.

The mother recounted that her daughter felt reassured upon arriving at the residence and seeing several men in the yard, believing the environment to be safe. However, she alleged that Joseph had invited her upstairs under the pretext of retrieving something, where the assault reportedly occurred. The victim’s family expressed concern that efforts were being made to suppress the matter.
The Law Offices of Hughes, Fields and Stoby has been recruited to represent the woman from Berbice who has accused Shamar.
“She will be represented by a number of attorneys from the law firm,” the senior representative of the law firm said.
The alleged victim’s family has meanwhile expressed deep concern over what they describe as a sustained effort by law enforcement authorities to suppress and cover up the incident.
According to the victim’s mother, the accused was familiar to the family and had earned the trust of her daughter and on the day of the incident, the cricketer picked the young woman up from her workplace under the pretense of socializing.

“She called me and said, ‘Mom, I’m going out with (Shamar Joseph), I’ll be home by a certain time.’ He took her to a house in (Berbice) where several men were seen hanging out in the yard. She said after seeing other people there, she felt safe. But then he asked her to come upstairs to get something. That’s when it happened,” the mother recounted.
The mother alleged that once inside the house, the cricketer forcibly removed the young woman’s clothing and s*xually assaulted her.
“He ripped off her pants, held her down, and did what he wanted. My child has not been the same since. She’s been broken ever since that day,” she said.
Meanwhile, sources within the Guyana Police Force indicated that the young woman had been subjected to repeated and emotionally taxing questioning, which ultimately forced her to leave an interview midway. Since then, she has reportedly been hospitalized and remains under medical care. As the investigation continues, the allegations have cast a shadow over Joseph’s burgeoning cricket career.
Since the report came out, more women have come forward, producing evidence like screenshots, voice notes, medical filings, and messages, claiming repeated assaults and attempts at cover-up of the incidents.

He was even reportedly arrested on a s*xual assault allegation after it was alleged that the accused was allegedly involved in the r*pe of a teen relative under the age of consent. The victim later withdrew her statement, and the case was closed.
