Shakur Stevenson vs Shuichiro Yoshino: match events & post-match reactions
Shakur Stevenson moved to the lightweight division after his super featherweight titles were stripped and in his debut match, he completely outboxed undefeated Japanese boxer Shuichiro Yoshino. During the second-round of the bout, Stevenson scored a knockdown and replicated that feat in the fourth-round and although Yoshino beat the count both times, his inability to counter compelled the referee for ending the fight.
Ultimately, the match was declared over in the sixth-round and Stevenson was announced as the winner. Stevenson didn’t think twice to direct some harsh remarks towards Devin Haney, the indisputable lightweight world champion, after skating to victory and raising his record to 20-0. This match with Haney might come to fruition soon enough as Stevenson has become the mandatory challenger for Haney’s WBC title.
