Shaili Singh, a teenage athlete from Uttar Pradesh, performed the second-longest long jump in history, after her idol and coach Anju Bobby George, with a stunning 6.76-meter performance on her way to taking home the gold in the Indian Grand Prix 4 Athletics competition on Saturday.
Her accomplishment overshadowed Assamese sprinter Amlan Borgohain’s 100-200 double victory in the men’s division.

Shaili, 19, increased her personal best by 28 cm, passing Aishwarya Babu (6.73 m), JJ Shobha and V Neena (6.66 m), Mayookha Johnu (6.64 m), M Prajusha, Nayana James, and Ancy Sojan (6.55) to move up to second place on the all-time list after Anju Bobby George (6.83 m).

Who is Shaili Singh?
Shaili Singh is a young Indian athlete. She has been in the news because she performed the second-longest long jump (6.76m) in the Indian Grand Prix 4 Athletics competition on Saturday.
She was born in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, India, on January 7, 2004. She was raised by her single mother, Vinita Singh, who works as a part-time entrepreneur. She has two siblings as well.
When she was 14 years old, Shaili Singh relocated to Bangalore to train at the Anju Bobby George Sports Foundation, where she began her training under the Georges’ direction. She is currently 19 years old with her height at 5 feet 7 inches.
Her career
Shaili Singh won the gold medal in the U-16 long jump category at the Junior National Athletics Championship in Ranchi in 2018 after starting her professional training. She also broke the previous junior long jump record with a leap of 5.94 meters.
She outdid herself the following year, shattering her own record and winning the gold medal in the under-18 division at the Junior National Athletics tournament in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, with a leap of 6.15 meters.
Her exceptional result comfortably exceeded the threshold for entry into the IAAF Under-20 Championship in 2020. Shaili Singh continued to dazzle in June 2021 at the senior sports championships (National Interstate) in Patiala, when she broke the U20 record with a jump of 6.48 meters and won the long jump competition despite being a junior athlete.
Later on, she continued to participate in the 2021 World Athletic U20 Championships, where she won the silver medal in the long jump with a fantastic leap of 6.59 meters.
