Interestingly, this infectious number, now viral, is sung by Shahnaaz Randhawa, the niece of veteran actress Mumtaaz.

Shahnaaz recently shared her thoughts on the song’s widespread popularity in an interview with senior film journalist and editor, Chaitanya Padukone.

Shahnaaz’s Statement

During the interview, Shahnaaz disclosed, “Both my grandparents hail from Iran, and my grandmother used to sing the original version of this Iranian song, Jamaloo Kudu, ever since I was a child. I’ve been familiar with this song for as long as I can remember.”

She further elaborated, saying, “We visit Iran almost every year, and I have grown up with their captivating traditional Iranian folk music, which includes rhythmic clapping and finger-snapping. Over the years, some Indian composers have also drawn inspiration from these catchy Iranian tunes.”

Jamal Kudu Song Origination

The song Is featured in a pivotal scene of Deol’s character Abrar’s third wedding, accompanied by a music choir.

Originating from Iran, the song is inspired by the Iranian tune “Jamaal Jamaaloo” and was reimagined by composer Harshvardhan Rameshwar for the film Animal.

Inspiration

It draws inspiration from a poem by Iranian poet Bijan Smandar and was reportedly first sung at Kharazemi Girls High School in the 1950s, eventually becoming a popular wedding song. The original version surfaced on Instagram, sparking interest among users.

Bobby Deol shared insights into his iconic entry scene, explaining, “Sandeep Reddy Vanga informed me about it initially. He described a tired and exhausted Ranbir who has lost it, and the screen would transition to my smiling face.”

Despite reports suggesting that Shahnaaz Randhawa sang the viral “Jamal Kudu” song, she has since clarified, “I wish to inform all concerned that I am not the singer of the viral Jamal Kudu Iranian song from the movie Animal.

“I only have knowledge of Iranian folk music since my childhood. Professionally, I am an entrepreneur and a reputed jewelry designer, not a playback singer.”

Meanwhile, the song continues to capture the hearts of fans, with its roots in the original Iranian song “Jamal Jamaloo” sung in the 1950s.
