Setback For India, Hima Das To Miss Tokyo Olympics 2021 Due To Injury

Indian Sprinter Hima Das shared the news that she will not be playing in Tokyo Olympics 2021 due to an injury. Tokyo Olympics was going to be her Olympics debut

21-years old Assamese Spriter Hima Das is now out of the Tokyo Olympics due to a hamstring injury. Moreover, she vowed that she will make a strong comeback and she is looking forward to the Commonwealth Games 2022. Hima has won several medals for India in the 400 meters race at the Asian Games. Also, she is the second athlete from Assam after Bhogeswar Baruah to win a gold medal at an international level.

Tokyo Olympics 2021: What Happened to Hima Das And Her Injury

Hima Das is an athlete who won several medals for India in the 2018 Asian games held in Jakarta. Furthermore, Das won two gold medals at the event and one silver medal. First, she won the Women’s 4*400, and second, came in mixed 4*400. She won the silver medal in 400 meters race. Also, she won a gold medal in the 400 meters U20-Championship held in 2018 Tampere.

Hima suffered a hamstring injury during the 100-meter heats. Moreover, the hamstring injury will take time to recover and as a result, Hima will not be able to take part in the Tokyo Olympics. Hima shared the news on her Twitter handle and said she is looking forward to the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, and World Championship.

The 4*100 meters race was held at the National Inter-state athletics championship where the race ended after 44.15 seconds, failing to meet the target of 43.03 seconds. She finished the race third taking a time of 12.01 seconds during the morning session at the venue. However, Das had an injury of the lower back for a long time, but still, she was continuing to practice.

Das thanked all the staff and her coaches for the support. Furthermore, she vowed that she will make a strong comeback. Das was one of India’s hope to get a medal at the Tokyo Olympics as she had made the country proud several times on international stages.
