The Royal and Ancient (R&A) Golf Club of St. Andrews will be organising another edition of its Open Golf Championship for seniors, know the 2022 Senior Open Championship prize money purse payout
The R & A, based in St. Andrews, Scotland, is one of the oldest golf clubs in the world and is a strictly private club for members-only. The club first started the Senior Open in the year 1987, which is still under way 35 years later. This, however, pales in comparison to the British Open, which has been around for 150 years.

19-hour Live Coverage
The King’s Course, designed by James Braid in Scotland, will host the annual event from July 21–24 this year. Fans and interested viewers can watch the live coverage of the 19-hour event through the NBC Sports and Golf Channel apps and websites.
Many of the top-class Senior Tour players are present at the King’s Course since it is one of the five major competitions. Big names like Ernie Els, Bernhard Langer, and Darren Clarke are all present at the event.
The Prize Money And The Winner’s Payout
This year, the Senior Open Championship prize money is $2.5 million, with the winner set to receive $720,000 from the prize money. The prize money follows the standard 15 percent payout as per the PGA Tour Champions’ prize money distribution chart.
After the second round, players drop out, with only the top 70 and the ties advancing to the final two rounds. Players are given a chance to win the prize money only if they manage to finish the final round.
Moreover, each dollar earned this week equals a regular season point needed to qualify for the Charles Schwab Cup playoffs in 2022. It should be noted that only the top 72 players get a chance to compete in the event. The winner of the Senior Open will most likely get a chance to qualify for the Charles Schwab Cup playoffs.
Additionally, if the player wins the Senior Open, he will increase his point total and have a chance to finish in the top five by the season’s end. They will, specifically, receive a portion of the $2.1 million bonus pool based on their positions. Moreover, the PGA Tour Champions events also don’t award Official World Golf Ranking points, in contrast to PGA Tour competitions.
