As BCCI vs Virat Kohli heats up over the ODI captaincy decision, a senior source has revealed by Sourav Ganguly is refraining to speak on the press conference given by Kohli
For someone who sunned Ravichandran Ashwin from international tours all across the course of 2021 and threw Anil Kumble out as the head coach of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli is surely doing more than his fair bit of wallowing.
A decadent personality, Kohli is not shying away from taking on the BCCI head on after being stripped off the ODI captaincy. With his backed Ravi Shastri no longer at the helm of the Indian team, Kohli was asked to step down by the selectors who decided to was time to hand over the reigns of the team to IPL proven Rohit Sharma.
Senior BCCI Officials Reveals Why The Board Hasn’t Publicly Addressed The Press Conference Given By Virat Kohli
However, rather than taking things amicably and moving towards the betterment of the team, Kohli who failed to win an ICC trophy during his tenure decided personal gain was all that mattered for him. He recently cribbed about how he was informed about the selectors holding a meeting to discuss the team for the impending South Africa vs India series with him being told he was no longer captain of the ODI unit 90 minutes later.
Kohli had also gone onto claim that no one from the BCCI had gone onto ask him to stay as the T20 captain when he had decided to step down as previously claimed by president Sourav Ganguly. The BCCI had on Wednesday held a Zoom call with Sourav, Jay Shah and other senior members in attendance to discuss Kohli’s comments.
However, Sourav went onto refrain from making a public comment on Kohli refuting his claims with him only going onto say “No statements, no press conference. We will deal with it, leave it to (the) BCCI,” as he was quizzed on the issue.
It has now come to light that the decision from the BCCI to curb itself from countering Kohli publicly is being done to ensure the team’s morale isn’t affected ahead of the South Africa vs India series later this months.
“Expert opinion was taken on how to deal with the sensitive matter as it also involves the respect of a president’s office. The BCCI knows that a Test series is round the corner and any hasty decision or statement from them could affect the morale of the team,” a senior BCCI source told PTI.
