Manchester United academy graduate was suffering from a slight discomfort in his groin and has undergone surgery which will sideline him for an unspecified period of time. Subsequently, he will miss United’s next match against Wolves and probably the whole of September.

McTominay impressed in the pre-season matches and was influential in securing the victory against Leeds in the Premier League opener. This groin injury was bugging him for a long time and finally United have allowed him some time off to look after the discomfort.
Man United Injury Update: Scott McTominay to miss 1 month of action owing to a groin injury
The 24-year-old will not be able to participate in the Champions League group stage matches along with important Premier League clashes. Meanwhile, he will also miss out on the World Cup Qualifiers of the Scotland National Team.
United will have to begin their Champions League campaign without their most consistent midfielder who is out with a groin injury. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been handed over a big blow through this injury who is already short on midfielders.
The Red Devils confirmed in a club statement.
“Scott has undergone surgery for an ongoing groin injury that was causing significant pain when playing, having tried all other treatment options in pre-season, surgery was deemed necessary to resolve the issue.”
Manchester United have a busy schedule in the month of September with the commencement of the Champions League and The Carabao Cup. Meanwhile, some players will leave on International duty for their respective countries.
Scott McTominay’s time at Manchester United
McTominay joined the academy of Manchester United at a very tender age of five and never left progressing through the youth ranks of the club. Now 6 “4”, McTominay struggled during the early stages of his career because of his tall frame.
He was forced to play with the big kids for his further development and started growing more into the Manchester United system. The Scottish International never left the club on loan and waited patiently for his chance.
Meanwhile, he made his Premier League debut in 2017 against Arsenal coming on as a second-half substitute. He became a crucial part of Solskjaer’s team in 2019 where he managed to feature in 37 games for the club in all competitions and scoring 5 goals.
However, his last season was his best in Red and White shirt where he has featured in 49 games for the club in all competitions finding the net 7 times. Meanwhile, he has also established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe and has presented a difficult challenge to other midfielders in the team.
