With over $37 million in total prize money up for grabs over the course of the weekend, the Saudi Cup, the most valuable race meet in the world, got began at King Abdulaziz Racecourse in Riyadh on Friday.
The total prize money amounts to roughly $37.6million (£30m), with the top prize of the night the Saudi Cup itself, where the prize pot stands at a whopping £20m (£15m) and other bigger money races of the weekend include the Group 1 $1.5m Ministry of Culture Al Mneefah Cup on Saturday and the $2m Howden Neom Turf Cup; the $2.5M Longines Red Sea Turf Handicap and the $1.5m Boutique Group Saudi Derby on Sunday.

In four of the eight races on the first day, fourteen jockeys; seven women and seven men; participated in the Invest Saudi International Jockey Challenge. Maryline Aeon, a French rider, won the competition with 25 points. Brazilian jockey Victoria Mota finished third with 17 points, behind reigning champion Camilo Ospina, a Colombian who competes out of Saudi Arabia.
At the King Abdulaziz Racecourse in Riyadh on Saturday, Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman declared American Senor Buscador the victor of the 5th Saudi Cup 2024 horse race.
The Crown Prince gave the Saudi Cup to Senor Buscador’s owner, Sharaf Al-Hariri, and congratulated him. Along with congratulating the jockey Junior Alvarado and the horse trainer Hamad Al-Rashid, he also gave them each a cavalry horse helmet and a replica horse.

Saudi Cup 2024 prize money
The Saudi Cup itself holds the highest reward of the evening, with a prize purse of an incredible £20 million (£15 million). The total prize money is around $37.6 million (£30 million).
