Sasha Banks, a former WWE star who is now known as Mercedes Mone, was removed from the ring after allegedly breaking her ankle during a match yesterday night. The 31-year-old made news in May 2022 when she and Naomi, the other member of the Women’s Tag Team champions, left WWE’s Monday Night Raw due to a disagreement about creativity.

The two were placed on suspension, and after failing to negotiate an agreement to rejoin the organisation, Mone was let off in December. She returned to professional wrestling with New Japan Pro Wrestling in February, and she quickly defeated Kairi Sane to capture the IWGP Women’s Championship. However, Mayu Iwatani defeated her at the Stardom All-Star Grand Queendom in April, ending her tenure as champion after just 64 days.
Mone sustained a new injury.
After fighting at the NJPW Resurgence event on Sunday, she has now sustained a new injury. In the main event, Mone competed against Willow Nightingale to become the first NJPW Strong Women’s champion.
The ex-WWE superstar clotheslined her opponent’s neck across the top rope after leaping from the top rope and ring post to the floor. After the spot, she was unable to bear any weight on her right leg, but the contest went on for a further 60 seconds.
Mone then took a massive powerbomb from Nightingale and was declared to be in the clear for a three count, but the referee called it a two count because he said she had raised her shoulder. Nightingale then attempted the manoeuvre again, and this time she was successful in winning by pinfall.
Mone has responded on Twitter.
As fans worried about Mone’s condition, a picture of her being carried off the ring by a man was later posted online. However, Mone later acknowledged an injury on Twitter and reassured her fans that she will be stronger than ever once she returned.
She tweeted, “WRESTLING!!!! Oh, no, tonight didn’t turn out the way I had hoped.” “I’m sorry, and I really do love you guys. I’m going to recover and come back stronger than before. Moné.”
