This 10-day extravaganza is taking place at the Kisan Mela ground of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and serves as a unifying celebration of India’s rich diversity.
The Inauguration of the event was led by Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik. Artisans hailing from all 23 states will be showcasing their craftsmanship, providing a tantalizing glimpse into the multifarious culinary offerings from various regions.
The event spans across the mela grounds with over 350 stalls, featuring a wide array of food, handicrafts, and commercial offerings. At the center of the venue, a grand stage has been erected for cultural performances featuring artists from the state.
Fun Elements
One highly anticipated element of the Saras Mela is the assortment of swings and rides. However, the process of transporting and setting up these attractions from the Dussehra grounds to the new location is taking some time, with authorities assuring completion within a day or two.
Entry Fee
For general visitors, there is an entry fee of ₹10, and the premises are fortified with robust security measures, including over 300 CCTV cameras. Participants have been provided with free food, accommodations, and stalls.
Exemptions from the entry fee are in place for children under five years of age and government school students.
DC Malik said that nearly Rs 2 crore expenditure is expected to be incurred on this event of which the central government has contributed Rs 35 lakh while remaining funds are to be arranged through fund management for the event from October 27-November 5, 2023.
Entertainment Lineup
The entertainment lineup includes performances by renowned artists such as Satinder Sartaj, Ranjeet Bawa, Gurnam Bhullar, Sukhwinder Sukhi, Amar Sehmbi, Hunar Sidhu, Zorawar Wadali, and Nitin, ensuring a delightful experience for visitors.
In some instances, stall applicants who had received invitations from the administration were initially denied stalls due to non-confirmation of their applications. However, new stalls were promptly set up, and these applicants were accommodated. This marks the third occasion that Ludhiana is hosting this event.
Approximately 800 women from Self-Help Groups representing 23 different states will exhibit an array of products, including handicrafts, handlooms, and natural food items sourced from rural areas throughout the country.
