Kerala wins the Santosh Trophy for the seventh time after defeating Bengal on penalties. On Monday at the Manjeri Payyanad Stadium in Malappuram, hosts Kerala fought back from a goal down to defeat West Bengal 5-4 in a penalty shootout to win the 75th National Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy.

Kerala has been promised a huge Rs 1 crore as an incentive if they win the Santosh Trophy, in which they are up against 32-time winners West Bengal.
Dr Shamsheer Vayalil, the Chairman and Managing Director of Abu Dhabi-based VPS Healthcare, has handed Kerala a whopping Rs. 1 crore as a prize in the run-up to the title showdown. Kerala has only triumphed against Bengal 8 times in their 31 matches thus far. Vayalil announced on his Twitter account. Kerala has done it. Now it remains to see when Dr Vayalil delivers his promise.
The winner will overall be richer by Rs.5,00,000 while the second place team will be awarded Rs.3,00,000.
