Samay Raina was the co-winner of the second season of the stand-up comedy contest Comicstaan. During the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, he started streaming chess games along with multiple comedians and chess masters. Raina has raised substantial amounts of money for several causes through his official YouTube channel, including help for the waste pickers, and relief for West Bengal and Assam flood victims.

Samay Raina got enrolled in a print engineering course at Vidhyarthi Griha based in Pune, Maharashtra which he said was a waste of time, and began doing open mic events. Eventually, he became a regular in local comedy. He was born to Rajesh Raina, who is a journalist and hails from Jammu. The 24 year old has a height of 173cm.

After performing at numerous open mics since 27th August 2017, Raina started opening for well-known comedians like Anirban Dasgupta and Abhishek Upmanyu in Pune. As Raina gained recognition, he shifted to Mumbai to pursue his career in stand-up comedy and gave many successful shows in Mumbai and several other cities across the nation.

Eventually, Samay Raina joined Comicstaan 2 from a suggestion from his co-winner Aakash Gupta. Later on, Samay became the joint winner of Comicstaan 2 with Aakash Gupta, which aired on Amazon Prime Video.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, when the government canceled all outdoor events, thus Samay Raina could no longer perform stand-up comedy. He then started streaming chess games on his YouTube channel at fellow comedian Tanmay Bhat’s suggestion. His viewership was boosted when he invited YouTuber Antonio Radic, popularly well known as Agadmator, to his channel.

In response to this, an Indian GM, Vidit Gujrathi tweeted that he would like to join Raina on his track. Moreover, he also appeared on Raina’s channel, giving another boost to Raina’s viewership. Since then, the two have fostered a very strong relationship and are frequently featured on each other’s channels.
