The 2024 SAFF U-17 Championship marks the 9th edition of this prestigious international football tournament, featuring men’s under-17 national teams and organized by the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF). The competition is being held from September 20 to 30, 2024, in the scenic city of Thimphu, Bhutan. India enters the tournament as the defending champions, having claimed their fifth title with a 2–0 victory over Bangladesh in the final on September 10, 2023.

India extended their winning streak in the 2024 SAFF U-17 Championship with a commanding 3-0 victory over the Maldives in their final Group A match at Changlimithang Stadium, Thimphu, on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. India led 1-0 at halftime.

Having secured a spot in the semi-finals following a 1-0 win over Bangladesh earlier in the three-team group, India topped Group A with a perfect six points. Bangladesh advanced as runners-up. India will now face the runners-up from Group B (either Bhutan, Pakistan, or Nepal) in the first semi-final on September 28.
The scoring was opened by Samson Ahongshangbam, who delivered a brilliant diving header in the first half, connecting flawlessly with a well-placed cross from Manbhakupar Malngiang on the right flank. In the second half, Hemneichung Lunkim scored two goals to make it 3-0 for India and confirm his team’s victory.
